Get ready for the APRIL Installment of the 2021 ‘Virtual’ Nutrition Seminar Series, hosted by the Centre for Nutrition Modelling (Animal Biosciences Department).

Each month in 2021 a different lab within the Nutrition group will share their exciting new research in a dynamic virtual manner.

In April we bring you:

Tentative title: Integrating breeder and early life nutrition for enhanced poultry production

Dr Elijah Kiarie’s lab

Background: Despite advancement in genetics and management, metabolic and skeletal disorders persist in commercial poultry production and the associated mortality and morbidity exerts huge economic losses to producers. Furthermore, gastrointestinal adaptation to luminal stress and resiliency to intensive production practices is a challenge moreso in the light of restriction on the use of antibiotic growth promoters (AGP) and changes in housing. We will share our current research on integrating breeder and early post-hatch nutrition strategies to support gut, skeletal and brain development at embryonic through to early post-hatch period for enhanced productivity.

Featured graduate students:

Dr. Reza Akbari Moghaddam Kakhki, Layer Research Scientist, Trouw Nutrition

Aizwarya Thanabalan, PhD candidate, U of G

Rosemary Whittle, PhD candidate, U of G

Zhuang Lu, Visiting PhD candidate, Nanjing Agric. Uni.
