Dr. Ricarda Jahnel, a Postdoctoral Fellow with Dr. Christine Baes in the Centre for Genetic Improvement of Livestock (CGIL), was born into a farming family in Germany. She attained her Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture at the Hochschule Osnabrück, followed by her Master’s degree in Animal Science at the University Rostock. Her journey led her to complete her PhD in Quantitative Genetics at the Research Institute for Farm Animal Biology (FBN) and the Christian Albrechts University of Kiel in Germany.
With her background in both industry and research Dr. Jahnel attained a strong insight of the upstream and downstream market of the agricultural sector. She developed statistical methods for important livestock traits including the epigenetic phenomena - parent-of-origin effects - for genetic evaluation and found research solutions to this key economic sector.
