Academics:
I have recently completed my BSc, majoring in Animal Biology from the University of Guelph and convocated in the Spring of 2021. As of September 2021, I began my journey in the Animal Biosciences department, and am currently completing my Masters in Animal Nutrition under the supervision of Dr. Anna-Kate Shoveller. My project and major research paper involves working alongside phD student Cara Cargo-Froom on an indicator amino acid oxidation (IAAO) study. More specifically, we are presenting grower pigs with different protein pulses, and measuring their amino acid oxidation as they are placed in individual chambers. As the pigs are in their chambers, they receive 13 small meals in different time periods, and their oxidation samples are collected in glass tubes. This allows us to measure the availability of protein in different pulses, in hopes of maximizing protein sources in the swine industry. Upon arrival of our results, I will be writing my first major research paper on this research project, in hopes of further improving my research and writing skills, and knowledge on the swine industry.
About me:
My love for animals has developed from a young age, and I always knew that I had a great interest in animal health, welfare, and nutrition, specifically for companion animals. Therefore, attending the University of Guelph and completing my undergraduate degree in Animal Biology was a no brainer for me. Throughout my undergraduate studies, I developed an interest in Veterinary Medicine and wanted to attend the OVC. Although, as I continue in this graduate program, I developed a strong passion for animal nutrition and academia, and hope to continue extending my knowledge in this field. Outside of university, I enjoy spending time with my family, friends, and my two dogs. My hobbies include reading, watching documentaries, and skiing.
