Throughout the duration of my Masters, my coursework has covered a variety of topics, such as: functional nutraceuticals, community engagement, professional development, meta-analysis, and pollinator biology. The last topic - pollinator biology - is of particular relevance to my research project. During my undergrad, I learned of my fondness for honeybees and had the opportunity to continue learning of the biology, social structure, and preferences of honeybees and other pollinators. During the past couple of years, my interest grew in pollinator biology, as did my interest for the potential to correlate plant science to the benefit of pollinator biology and environmental science.
With oversight courtesy of my advisor - Vern Osborne - my Masters research project looks to investigate the potential of shifting properly lines to better suit and complement the natural geography and waterways of the area. This project investigates the potential benefit of placing native plants that are complimentary to the geography and waterways of the area (currently investigating the geography and waterways of southern Ontario) and that would support pollination by local pollinators. Ideally, these plants would too support carbon sequestration, a key topic for combating climate change, but for the time being, successful pollination is the main focus of this research project.
