MSc Animal Biosciences, University of Guelph, coursework, 2022 - ongoing

BSc (Honours) Molecular Biology and Genetics, University of Guelph, 2022

About Me:

In 2022, I completed a Bachelor of Science (Honours), majoring in Molecular Biology and Genetics at the University of Guelph. This included completing courses on quantitative genetics and animal models, which interested me in using computational software and tools for genetic research and applications.

Currently, I am a Master of Science through coursework student being advised by Dr. Christine Baes at the Center for Genetic Improvement of Livestock (CGIL). I am focusing on Animal Biosciences with a specialization in Animal Breeding and Quantitative Genetics. Through coursework, I am gaining expertise in the area of animal breeding and associated computer technologies that are applied to livestock genetics. In May 2023, I will complete a 4-month thesis which is still to be determined. I also volunteer with collecting data for the Resilient Dairy Genome Project, participating in methane testing at the Elora Research Center.

Through my experiences, I have seen how important livestock genetics is for the food we consume. My future career goal is to continue using the skills I am developing to improve livestock genetics and generate better food for consumers. I am from Thornhill, Ontario and have lived in the city of Guelph for 5 years. In my free time, I enjoy rock climbing, going to the gym, traveling and cooking.
