Good afternoon CGIL,
This week we are happy to have Dr. James Koltes, assistant professor at Iowa State University, presenting for us on Friday, February 2nd, 2024. The seminar will begin at 1:30 PM EDT/EST on the virtual platform Microsoft Teams. The presentation title is: "Identification of new technologies to improve feed efficiency in dairy cattle".
Speaker Biography: Dr. Koltes received his BS degrees in Dairy Science and Genetics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and PhD from Iowa State University in Genetics. Prior to starting at Iowa State in September 2017, he was a faculty in the Department of Animal Science at the University of Arkansas. Among his awards and honors, he was a Fulbright Fellow to Belgium where he worked in the lab of Michel Georges. At Iowa State University, he has two main research focuses areas: 1) investigation of new tools (i.e., sensors and biomarkers) for use in the genetic improvement of feed efficiency in dairy cattle; and 2) annotation of genome function as part of the Functional Annotation of Animal Genomes (FAANG) consortium. Dr. Koltes also serves in a leadership role where he supports research capacity in data collection for animal genomics researchers and supports shared bioinformatics and data science resources for livestock breeding and genomics researchers in the United States.
