Dr. Giovana Vargas has a bachelor’s degree in Animal Science (2012) and a Master (2013) in Animal Breeding and Genetics from São Paulo State University (UNESP), Brazil. She completed her PhD in Dec/2018 at UNESP and conducted part of his PhD research at The Centre for Genetic Improvement of Livestock (CGIL), University of Guelph (Canada). In January 2019 she joined University of Guelph as Postdoctoral researcher in Animal Breeding. Her experience with Animal Breeding and Genetics includes performing data quality analysis using statistical packages, conducting genetic parameter estimations and genomic evaluations for beef and dairy cattle, and performing bioinformatics analysis. Currently, she is working on genomic evaluations for novel traits, including feed efficiency, methane emissions and fertility-related traits in Canadian dairy cattle under the supervision of Dr. Schenkel.
