Trevor K. Smith is a native of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. He completed the B.Sc. degree in Chemistry at the University of British Columbia in 1970. The M.Sc. was completed in Animal Nutrition in the Department of Animal Science of the University of Manitoba in 1974. Ph.D. studies in Animal Nutrition were completed at Cornell University in 1977. Dr. Smith has been a faculty member at the University of Guelph since 1977. Dr. Smith's research interests are in the field of Feed Toxicology with projects on the etiology and prevention of Fusarium mycotoxicoses, analysis of feed-borne mycotoxins and the toxicity and analysis of feed-borne biogenic amines. He has worked closely with the animal feed industry and for a two year sabbatical held the position of NSERC Senior Industrial Fellow with the Research and Development division of Shur-Gain, a member company of Maple Leaf Foods, in Mississauga, Ontario. More recently he completed a three year secondment to Alltech Canada, Inc., Guelph, Ontario. Research is conducted across species including studies with poultry, swine, dairy and beef cattle, horses, rabbits, dogs and cats. Current international research collaborations include those with the University of Eastern Finland, Kuopio, Finland and the University of Ghent, Ghent, Belgium.
