I graduated from the University of Guelph with a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Animal Biology in May of 2022. Throughout my undergrad I had many animal related work experiences giving me hands on knowledge about sheep, goats, cows, donkeys, chickens and horses. My passion for animals has only blossomed throughout the duration of my degree.  My own personal devotion remains with horses, as I have been a competitive rider for many years. As I was nearing the end of my BSc, I decided I wanted to pursue academia further. I am currently a Master’s candidate in the Animal Biosciences department mainly working on research studies based on equine physiology under Dr. Wendy Pearson.

What is currently known about the true biochemical effect of joint supplements in riding horses is limited. Many supplements are available to aid in the treatment of arthritis, however understanding the degree to which these supplements work is not well understood. Interleukin 1-beta (IL-1B) when injected into the joint can crate clinical synovitis, a non-lethal method of joint manipulation. This manipulation can be used in conjugation with oral supplements to understand the real effect of these supplements at the joint level. The main purpose of this is to see if we can prove that certain supplements do have a scientifically proven effect on joints. Having rode for many years, I am curious to see what the research tells us about these supplements.

In my spare time you can find me with my horse Teo, my dog Cecilia, or the lovely people I am lucky enough to call my friends.
