Growing up on a broiler and layer operation, I have developed an interest in the poultry industry, and specifically, broiler nutrition. I am focusing on reducing the use of antimicrobials in broiler diets as preventatives, and instead, looking at alternative methods of promoting a healthy gut. My research will be comparing the digestibility of different protein sources included in broiler chick starter rations, and the subsequent effect on growth performance and gut health. Highly digestible feed ingredients, specifically protein, have a large impact on gut development and nutrient absorption. Maximizing the digestibility of protein aids in reducing the occurrence of gastrointestinal disease challenges capable of inhibiting growth, that would otherwise require the support of antimicrobials in the diet.

The goal of my research is to provide a direct benefit to the industry and supply producers, nutritionists, and other professionals with data in order to produce the most efficient, and sustainable product possible.

Other than managing my family’s poultry operation, I am an avid equestrian and compete in the jumpers, equitation, and hunters. This landed me a spot on the University of Guelph IHSA Hunt Seat Team throughout my undergraduate degree, as well as the role of Co-Captain in third and fourth year. In addition, I am a competitive trapshooter, and also enjoy training and spending time with my dogs.
