I obtained my B.Sc. in Zoology with a minor in ecology at the University of Guelph. I was always most interested in animal behaviour, but after working with dairy heifers and rescued ponies I knew my heart was in welfare. I am currently working with Dr. Georgia Mason on a project investigating the effects of standard, barren housing on the social behaviour of mice. We suspect that the stereotypic and/or depressive behaviours induced by barren housing may compromise a mice's motivation to socialise, their perceived value as a social partner, as well as their effectiveness as a social buffer, and their ability to reliably pass on information in social learning tasks, as is the case for humans with psychological disorders such as autism and schizophrenia.
