Defences and Qualifying Exams

For thesis students, completing your QE (Ph.D. students only) and defending your thesis are integral parts of your degree. Coursework MSc students do not defend a thesis, but instead, write a Major Research Paper (ANSC6900) that is graded by their Advisor and another faculty member (ie. co-advisor or advisory committee member).

Department-Specific Information

Do you have receipts that require reimbursement as authorized by your supervisor? Have you attended a conference outside of Ontario that is to be covered under the University? Have you done some work outside of your laboratory that can be counted for hours? Here is some information that may be useful for you.

Teaching Assistantships (TA)

Teaching Assistantships are positions appointed to graduate students in which they will aid with teaching tasks required in a course as outlined by the primary instructor. This may include marking of assignments and examinations, conducting demonstrations and supervising students (if a laboratory component is part of the course), as well as serving as the secondary instructor to some lectures if necessary. Teaching Assistants (TAs) are also expected to promptly respond to students' emails and to retain professionalism at all times in a classroom setting.
