Dr. W. Allan King a Professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the Ontario Veterinary College will present a CGIL Seminar on Friday, April 26th. The seminar will begin at 1:30 pm in room 141 of the Animal Science & Nutrition building.
Dr. W. Allan King is a recently retired professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the Ontario Veterinary College. From 2004-2018 he held Canada’s only tier 1 Research Chair (CRC) in Animal Reproductive Biotechnology. He graduated with a B.Sc. and M.Sc. from the University of Guelph and a Ph.D. from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (Uppsala Sweden). He was a post-doctoral fellow and assistant professor at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Montreal (St Hyacinthe Canada). Dr. King has been a visiting professor in France, Sweden, Korea and Brazil where he has lectured and conducted research. He is co-founder and president of Karyotekk Inc.
Dr. King’s research career spans over 40 years investigating the genetic basis of reproduction and fertility in cattle, pigs, horses and water buffalo. He has published over 250 peer-reviewed scientific papers and book chapters, edited 4 special issue monographs and has served as associate editor of 3 international journals in the area of animal reproduction. In a 2012 study conducted by Higher Education Strategy Associates, he was identified as Canada’s top researcher in the field of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. King has taught medical genetics to over 2500 veterinarians and trained more than 90 graduate students and post-doctoral fellows.
The Centre for Genetic Improvement of Livestock welcomes all interested University of Guelph staff, faculty, students, and industry or academic collaborators to attend our CGIL Seminars, which are held on Friday afternoons throughout the Fall and Winter semesters.
