Short Biography

Lucas obtained his Bachelor’s in Animal Science in 2016 and his Master’s degree in Genetics and Animal Breeding in 2019 from the Sao Paulo State University, Brazil. During his undergraduate studies he acquired experience in the fields of poultry and meat science where he won the award for best undergraduate research project in animal science. By the end of his undergrad, Lucas was an intern in a private company inside the Brazilian beef production chain, a member of the research groups for monogastric animals nutrition, food technology and processing of animal products.

During his Master´s, Lucas investigated how meat quality parameters are related and how they could affect the purchase of meat by the consumers. His research interests and the opportunities for new challenges brought him to the University of Guelph in 2020 for a Ph.D. in Animal Biosciences. As part of the RDGP project, his thesis focuses on the underlying genetic mechanisms of rumination time, feed efficiency and methane emissions in the Canadian Dairy Cattle.
