Growing up on a cow-calf farm inspired my first interests in working with animals as a lifelong career path, and it was during this time that I learned valuable hands-on skills in animal husbandry and livestock production. My first exposure to research in ruminant nutrition was cultivated while working as an undergraduate assistant at the University of Alberta. This was an excellent way to gain first-hand exposure to livestock research, and ultimately led me to pursue further education in ruminant nutrition.

In my current role as a master’s student at the University of Guelph, I focus on the health, performance, and gut development of dairy calves, and specifically, how these aspects are impacted by the use of antimicrobials in milk replacers. My time spent working in agricultural research settings has taught me to think independently and to identify problems through experimental investigation, and to use these skills for practical applications on-farm. What I enjoy most about this field is applying what I learn, and I look forward to opportunities to share research and skills with others.
