I am a Masters student under the supervision of Dr. Derek Haley, and am also a 2019 graduate of the BSc (Hons) Animal Biology program here at the University of Guelph with hopes to pursue a DVM from the OVC in the near future. My interest in animal welfare stemmed from participating in the 18th annual AVMA Animal Welfare Assessment Contest. After placing 3rd in the overall individual undergraduate division in 2018, I decided to join the graduate team the following year where we placed 1st in the overall team division in 2019. This intercollegiate competition is designed to test students and their ability to effectively judge and assess welfare scenarios for a variety of species.
