With a new school year starting, the Campbell Centre for the Study of Animal Welfare (CCSAW) Student Chapter would like to give you the opportunity to become involved with our organization. Right now we are looking for a President (must be a PhD student who is responsible for all events and programs run by the Student Chapter—this role is a 2-year commitment), an undergraduate representative (must be an undergraduate student who will assist in promoting events), an OVC representative (must be an OVC student who will assist in promoting events), and event coordinators (MSc coursework, MSc thesis, or PhD students who will assist in organizing and attending events).
Roles of the CCSAW Student Chapter include organizing events such as a graduate student panel, behind the scenes tours at the Toronto Zoo and on-campus Central Animal Facility, research seminars, mock qualifying exams and defences, fundraisers, as well as various community outreach events. We have regular meetings a few times per semester and try to divvy up the responsibilities fairly. Joining the CCSAW Student Chapter is a great way to perform outreach and educate others on the importance of animal welfare, as well as to become more involved with the community.
Executive members are chosen based on the following qualifications: passion for educating others about animal welfare, leadership skills (shown through past volunteer/work experiences), a history of commitment (e.g., volunteering at the same place for an extended period of time), enthusiasm, and a positive attitude via their written application. If you are interested in joining, please send a short summary about yourself, including your experience with leadership roles and animal welfare, why you would like to be a part of the Student Chapter, what program you are in (and expected graduation date), and what position you are applying for.
The current members will be meeting later this month to review the applicants, so if you could send your bio to courtney.graham@uoguelph.ca [1] no later than Sunday September 15th, that will give us enough time to make an informed decision and get the new members integrated into their roles as soon as possible.
We look forward to hearing from you,
CCSAW Student Chapter
