Hello CGIL,

This week we are happy to have Dr. Mehdi Sargolzaei, presenting for us on Friday, November 6th, 2026. The seminar will begin at 1:30 PM EDT/EST in person in room ANNU 141 and on the virtual platform of Microsoft Teams. The presentation title is: “Navigating the Inbreeding Trend in Modern Dairy Cattle Breeding: What is Driving the Trend?”.

Speaker Biography:

Dr. Mehdi Sargolzaei is a leading scientist in dairy cattle genetics and computational genomics, holding a PhD in Animal Genetics and Breeding. He is currently serving as the Director of Genetic Research and Technology at Select Sires Inc. For over 30 years, his research has bridged the gap between quantitative genetics/genomics and commercial application. Dr. Sargolzaei's early research at the University of Guelph (2006–2009) on one of the industry's first applied Genomic Selection projects directly catalyzed the historic implementation of genomic selection in Canadian dairy cattle. He is also the creator of globally utilized bioinformatic tools, such as FImpute, snp1101, and QMSim, and has co-authored over 100 peer-reviewed papers.
