Hello CGIL,

We are happy to have Dr. Oscar Gonzalez-Recio, from the University of Edinburgh presenting for us on Friday, April 10th, 2026. The seminar will begin at 1:30 PM EDT/EST on the virtual platform Microsoft Teams. The presentation title is: “Breeding for lower methane emissions in cows – current state and future plans”

Speaker Biography:  Dr. González-Recio completed his PhD in animal breeding in 2006 from the Polytechnic University of Madrid. Then, he spent his post-doctoral period in the University of Wisconsin-Madison (USA), working on statistical modelling of genomic information on complex phenotypes. Since then, González-Recio has obtained international experience as Senior Research Scientist in the Department of Environment and Primary Industries (Victoria, Australia) and the Department of Animal Breeding at INIA (Madrid, Spain). He is now a professor at the Roslin Institute (University of Edinburgh) with personal Chair of Livestock Hologenomics. His most recent research projects include the selection of feed efficiency and lower methane emissions, including the role of the microbiome, to breed more productive livestock that provide more food for human consumption with reduced use of raw material and lower environmental and land footprints. Dr. González-Recio emphasizes the importance of phenotypes and recording schemes to maximize the success of breeding programs, as well as to improve any inference or prediction to be made for a better understanding of genetics and biology.

Information to attend: To join this seminar, please ensure you have downloaded the Microsoft Teams application to your computer or join the meeting online using the web browser version of Microsoft Teams. Please join the meeting with your microphone on mute and the camera turned off. After the presentation, you can unmute the microphone, and optionally turn on the camera, if you wish to ask a question. Alternatively, if you wish to pose your question in the chat function, the presenter will answer questions made through the chat.
