This week we are happy to have Dr. José Manuel Yáñez, professor at the University of Chile, presenting for us on Friday, November 15th, 2024. The seminar will begin at 1:30 PM EDT/EST on the virtual platform Microsoft Teams. The presentation title is: “Next Steps in Aquaculture Breeding: Beyond Genomic Selection”.
Speaker biography: Dr. Yáñez currently serves as the Dean and Full Professor of the Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences at the University of Chile. He leads a research group specializing in aquaculture genetics and genomics, focusing on implementing new strategies to sustainably enhance fish farming production through genomic technologies in the Americas, Australia and Europe. Dr. Yáñez has been the principal investigator and co-investigator in R&D projects funded by various international agencies, including CONICYT-ANID and CORFO (Chile), Newton Fund and RCUK (UK), Genome Canada, Genome BC, and Genome Quebec (Canada), ANSO (China), IAEA (Austria), and FAPESP (Brazil), among others. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed scientific papers in international journals, making significant contributions to the fields of aquaculture genetics and genomics.
