Her ongoing research is assessing the current state of automated behavioral phenotyping using image analysis technology in order to improve the welfare of group-housed pigs. Dr. Wurtz obtained her PhD in 2017 from MSU in which she explored the underlying genetic components of agonistic behavioral traits in pigs. Overall, her research aims to improve the welfare of pigs through interdisciplinary collaboration and use of cutting edge technology.
