Good afternoon CGIL,

This week we are happy to have Dr. Nickolas Werry, presenting for us on Friday, September 18th, 2026. The seminar will begin at 1:30 PM EDT/EST in person in room ANNU 141 and on the virtual platform Microsoft Teams. The presentation title is: “Livestock Gene Editing: Progress, Problems, and Promise”

Speaker Biography: Dr. Nick Werry completed his PhD in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Guelph in 2023, where he studied sperm-borne small non-coding RNAs as molecular markers of bovine fertility in the LaMarre Lab. He subsequently joined the Van Eenennaam Lab at the University of California, Davis as a Postdoctoral Researcher, where his work focused on the application of advanced gene editing technologies to generate livestock with agriculturally and medically relevant phenotypes. This included the development of gene-edited sheep as large animal models for drug development and hormonal research, as well as projects targeting allergen-avoidant and polled phenotypes in cattle through editing of embryos and embryonic stem cells.

Information to attend: To join this seminar, please ensure you have downloaded the Microsoft Teams application to your computer or join the meeting online using the web browser version of Microsoft Teams. Please join the meeting with your microphone on mute and the camera turned off. After the presentation, you can unmute the microphone, and optionally turn on the camera, if you wish to ask a question. Alternatively, if you wish to pose your question in the chat function, the presenter will answer questions made through the chat.
