Amanda Alvarenga

Good afternoon CGIL,

We are happy to have with us Dr. Amanda Alvarenga, a data scientist at Corteva Agriscience, to present this Friday, November 18th, 2022. The seminar will begin at 1:30 PM EDT/EST on the virtual platform Microsoft Teams. The title of the presentation is: "Genetic architecture of temperament and foot scores in Angus cattle: a longitudinal and across-country perspective".

To join this seminar, please ensure you have downloaded the Microsoft Teams application to your computer, or join the meeting online by using the web browser version of Microsoft Teams. Please join the meeting with your microphone on mute and camera turned off. After the presentation, you can unmute the microphone, and optionally turn on the camera, if you wish to ask a question. Speaker Biography: Amanda Alvarenga has recently completed her Ph.D. degree at Purdue University under the supervision of Dr. Luiz Brito. Her research was focused on quantitative genetics and genomics, and a few topics included (i) data simulation to evaluate single-step genomic prediction approaches in crossbred populations, (ii) a systematic review of genes controlling behavioral indicators in livestock species, and humans, (iii) evaluation of behavior in American Angus calves, (iv)  behavior as a longitudinal trait in American Angus dams, and (v) evaluation of an across country evaluation for American and Australian Angus populations. Amanda has recently started a position as a data scientist focused on plant breeding at Corteva Agriscience in the USA, where she will partner with plant breeders to drive analytical genetic gains.
