What They Did Back Then* Bachelor of Science, completed 2011, University of Guelph
ABSTRACT Ontario has a unique regulatory environment for Scientific Diving. Any underwater work in Ontario is classified as commercial diving and must comply with National and international commercial diving standards. This creates a complex set of objectives that Scientific divers must meet during operations, and in training. The Ontario Universities Dive Program has been put in place to train divers in the use of modified commercial diving techniques, to allow scientists to conduct underwater research using SCUBA, while meeting Provincial regulations as well as national and international standards. Presentations: Brydges, T., G. Hall, N. Waltho, D. Geddes and R.D. Moccia. 2014. Contemporary Approaches and Challenges with Training ‘Scientific Divers’ for the University Sector in Ontario. Annual General Meeting, Aquaculture Association of Canada. Saint Andrews, New Brunswick. June1-4. Where They Are NowAfter graduating, Torben worked as a research assistant for the University of Guelph. He assisted with Professor Moccia’s Aquaculture courses, and with undergrad research projects, and research projects at the Alma Aquaculture research station. |
