Victoria is a graduate from Honours Animal Biology with a minor in Animal Nutrition at the University of Guelph. She is currently working on a M.Sc. thesis with Dr. Angela Cánovas. Her project is looking at the genetic mechanisms of mucus plug formation associated with immune response to infection in the cow mamary gland. The infection of interest is subclinical mastitis, and the goal of this project is to determine which cows are geneticially more resistant to mastitis. Once the differentially expressed genes are identified, breeding programs can be developed to improve communication of this research with producers. This will ensure that producers are able to maintain their herds health and decrease their costs of treatment for subclinical mastitis, while working along side geneticists.
