CGIL Seminar: "Challenges and Opportunities of the Dairy Goat Industry"

Dr. Marlene Paibomesai, a Dairy Specialist at the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, will present a CGIL Seminar on Friday, November 1st. The seminar will begin at 1:30 PM in room 141 of the Animal Science & Nutrition building.

Dr. Marlene Paibomesai works as a dairy specialist at the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA), specializing in the dairy cattle, dairy goat, and dairy sheep industries in Ontario. She completed her doctorate at the University of Guelph with a focus on dairy cattle epigenetics and immune response with Dr. Bonnie Mallard. Marlene is a member of Whitefish River First Nations of Birch Island, Ontario and grew up in Kemptville Ontario.  Marlene will cover the current state of the dairy goat industry both worldwide and local. The presentation will highlight the challenges and opportunities that exist for the Ontario dairy goat industry. There is much opportunity for research into genetics solutions for common problems that are faced by dairy goat producers day-to-day. In addition to this the goat sector is also in need of continued knowledge transfer and translation in all aspects of production.    

The Centre for Genetic Improvement of Livestock welcomes all interested University of Guelph staff, faculty, students, as well as industry and academic collaborators to attend our CGIL Seminars, which are held on Friday afternoons throughout the Fall and Winter semesters.
