Aroa Suarez-Vega has a B.Sc. in Veterinary Science (2009) and a M.Sc. in Veterinary Research (2010) from the University of León, Spain. She completed her Ph.D. in the Animal Production Department of the University of León under the supervision of Dr. Juan José Arranz and Dr. Beatriz Gutierrez-Gil. The focus of her study was on the detection of the genetic basic of economically important traits in Spanish sheep breeds using genomic tools. Aroa successfully completed her Ph.D. in October 2015 at the University of León, and received the Outstanding Doctoral Award in Health Sciences. During her Ph.D. studies, she also had the opportunity of implementing her skills on bioinformatics and transcriptomics by completing an internship at the GenRoc lab of Dr. Gwenola Tosser-Klopp (INRA, France) and performing several courses such as the module of Advanced Methods for Biological Sequence Analysis from the University of Manchester. Following her Ph.D. defense, Aroa did a Post-doctoral research position at the University of León working on the genetic basis of the ovine milk protein coagulability by the analysis of the mammary gland transcriptome and microbiome. In January 2018, Aroa started working as a Post-doctoral Researcher at The Centre for Genetic Improvement of Livestock (CGIL) at The University of Guelph, Canada. She is currently working on leveraging genomic information to better understand the biological effect of major genes on reproduction and health traits in dairy cattle under the supervision of Dr. Angela Cánovas.
